Shoes & Difficult Clothing

[mood|aaahh, coooofffeeee...]

Okay, I think my shoes are on their last limbs. I'm feeling a very subtle flapping coming from inside the shoe. I can't consistently reproduce the problem and I can't see where the flapping is coming from, on visual examination.

I have to admit, $40 to be shod for two years isn't too bad. I got them two years ago at a Boxing Week sale at the mall. I've been wearing the same pair of black leather heels every single day. The only exceptions were special events, like my wedding. =) They're comfy. The laces are a pain in the ass, but they're very sturdy and comfy. It has a cushy sole, so I can walk great distances in them without killing my feet or my back. Oh, and the soles must've been 2 inches thick when I first got them because there's absolutely no danger of them wearing down.

I was trying shoes at the mall over the holidays. It's amazingly difficult to find Black Shoes[tm]. I want 3+ inch heels with a bit of height under the toes so that the incline isn't as bad as a stilletto. But I don't always like the shape of some of the heels or toes I see.

"Impossible To Find Clothing" Rant

It's as though The Western World is telling me that I don't deserve to be wearing clothes. In Hong Kong and Taiwan, all clothes in all boutiques and all department stores are all custom made FOR ME.

I'm beginning to think that North American sizes increase exponentially by each measurement step. Otherwise, why am I a Size 3 Petite (for pants) when a friend of mine who really isn't that much bigger than I am, a Size 12 Regular?!?!?!

I have friends who have moved to the US who tell me that I wouldn't have a hope in hell of finding clothes there. The only people my size down there, haven't reached puberty yet. So, I guess I could only wear anything if I learned how to do serious altering (because you don't expect an 8 year old to have boobs). This is why I ordered an XS Ladies for my LJ t-shirt. I'm amazed that it's a little snug.

A White Shirt[tm] is nearly impossible. I've noticed that Caucasian women have looooooooong arms. Every shirt that I try on, if the body fits, the sleeves will be fire hoses. And when I find one with the right length sleeve, it doesn't have Princess seams. Even with adult ladies sizes, I need Princess seams. =P

And if I find a shirt that fits PERFECTLY in the sleeves, torso, length, and looks good, it will be in the wrong colour or it's ripped/snagged somewhere.

I used to have a lot of trouble with Black Pants[tm]. People my height are not allowed to have butts, apparently. But The Garage Clothing Company has come to my rescue and they will be my Black/Dark Pants[tm] supplier into my next life. I get slightly flare bottomed pants now. And Garage - get this! - has Size 3 Petites. They have Size 1 Petites all the way up to Size 17.

I'm with diannaandbill's sister. I want my clothes to magically appear in my drawers.

What an amazing mental image you've envoked. I'm seeing you as very small person with big boobs & butt. Also with tyronosaurus-rex sized arms. :)

Well you could always start wearing "Geranimals"(tm).

Hey I feel your pain. Being tall in the US is as bad as being small. If you have a size 36" inseam you're very unlikely to find pants that fit. If you do find a 36" the garment industry assumes you have a 52" waist.

Yeah, that's why when we find something that fits, RAKE THE STORE CLEAN because you'll never find stuff that fits ever again =)

I hear ya. I hate being petite because it's so impossible to find clothing that I like that FITS. Of course, I, apparently, still have time to grow. :)

And what are Princess seams?

Princess Seams
Those vertical seam lines on the torso area (and in the same spots on the back) so that the shirt will follow your body contours. Makes ironing a hell-fight though. =P

At least, I think that's what they're called...

i usually get Gap Kids (age 8-10).. i think we have similar sizes. i also stocked up on pants from garage hahaha...

try gap kids, roots kids or soemthing (size 8) jacob jr. (size 12 might fit you), or esprit kids (honger sizes). that way, you don't have to pay PST also.

and Kids clothes have nicer colours haha...

Heh, Garage and Dynamite are good for shirts for me too.

My problem with Gap, Roots, Jacob Jr. and Esprit is they're more expensive. I don't like going to them unless I'm desparate for something very specific. And even then, I try to wait for a sale =D

Re: Kids Clothes

I KNOW!!! And they have nicer designs too! I sometimes look in the teen girls clothing aisle at Superstore. I've found great things there too. =D

Us western caucasian women don't have much luck either. Shirts are too narrow in the back for me, and they stretch across boobs.

Pants never fit me in the waist/hip or crotch, but balloon everywhere else.

I do have long arms, one step away from being able to swing from trees.

So, you see, that's why I took that patternmaking/tailoring class...so that I might say screw fitting size 6 to 12. I'll do it myself. Then I don't have to care what the size says, because the sizes of commercial places like Garage are wonky at best.

I feel like every pair of pants I've ever bought has needed to be hemmed! It gets really old finding a great pair of pants, only to have to wait to wear them until they're hemmed. *sigh*

Yup *nod* *nod* =P

on the other hand.
I could do altering for ya, sienca.

I'm doing a pattern template for me and a friend, so that I can just draw up basic fit patterns for jackets, shirts, pants..

and learning how to copy the pants I have that fit like a dream.

email me.
