Hair Cut?

[weather|partially sunny][water|1 by 1039h]

I'm thinking about getting a hair cut and doing something about my hair. I swear it's like I'm a girl or something. =O I haven't had my hair cut in years. I haven't had a hairstyle change in decades. I've just had an all one-length bob. I'd let it grow until I started sitting on it, then get it cut to shoulder length and let it grow again.

Contrary to popular belief, long hair is actually much easier to manage, for me, and short hair is a pain in the ass. I have a lot of hair. I have really thick individual pieces of hair and a high count of follicle/cm² of scalp. I'm a freaking broom.

When it's long (like right now), I don't even comb my hair in the mornings. I just push it out of my face and leave. When it's short, it's nasty. I have to wonder how the hell I slept to make it look like it's trying to be a fro. It sticks out in every single direction possible. So, I have to spend time styling it with two different types of blow dryers, 4 different combs and brushes (tangle comb, fine comb, 2" round brush, 1" round brush), and styling gunk. That's half an hour that I'd rather spend sleeping.

I want a hairstyle that's low maintenance... pardon, I want a hairstyle that's NO maintenance. I've been toying with the idea of layers, but I'm afraid that layers will behave like short hair, only worse because there will be all different lengths. Instead of being a broom, I'll be a pipe cleaner.

Hmmm, I dont have your "problem" ;-) I have a lot of very fine hair that gets weighed down if it's too long.
So I have waist-length hair, but I have layers starting from my chin on down.

I'd say ask a hairdresser, she would have some suggestions.

Is your hair straight and layered? Or do you also have a bit of a perm? I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to get large body waves.

yes, straight and layered, but the shorter layers have body and tend to wave (like a curl but bigger and looser).

Large body waves sounds good, but what's the upkeep on that?

I know, that's what I was wondering. =P My hair has a bit of loose wavies even now and a little wavier would be cool. But I don't want to get a loose perm for $60-100 and have it look frizzy instead.

=P =P

I have a lot of thick hair so i can see your problem. when i first got it layered, i didn't like how it 'winged' out. but after awhile, you get used to it, and eventually you just eve the house looking like that! i combed my hair after showering and maybe in the morning, so it's kinda maintainance free. no matter how weird it gets (including a fro!), keep in mind that someone's out there trying to get your hairstyle! when it's messy i just call it the roll out of bed look. hahhah

See, your hair looks okay no matter _what_ you do (it's SO unfair!). But I don't have the confidence that my hair will be like that as well.

And, yeah, the only time I comb it is when it gets washed.

I really don't have any suggestions
Since I have never had your problem. I have baby fine hair and I'm constantly trying to find some new product that will keep it looking OK all day long. I wear my hair mid-back length and have tiny layers around my face. I do most of my bold hair styles with color.

Now David and his family have your problem. They all have this gorgeous mid-thick hair with a touch of curl (except for one sister who has very very very curly hair - but looks gorgeous). David's hair is to his waiste and he is always babying it. He primps much more than I do and I can primp with the best of them.

Good luck in your quest!

Wow you can leave the house without combing your hair after sleeping on it? I know someone whose hair is so thick and straight that she can't even braid it, or the braid will fall out (even with a tight rubber band). i didn't believe her, but I saw for myself her braid falling out. :-)
