Moulin Rouge

[weather|sunny][water|0 @ 0000h]
[mood|blech...][music|  Peggy Wood - Climb Every Mountain]
I know "Moulin Rouge" got top ratings, but that has got to be the worst movie I have ever seen. I hated it. The costumes were neat and Ewan McGregor has a semi-decent singing voice, but that's it. I hated the rest of it. It's totally not my cuppa. I'm so very glad I missed it in the theatres. I was beginning to like Nicole Kidman a bit, but nope... >K{ ...can't stand her face either.

Yeah, I never bothered to see it. Any desire to see it got filtered the first preview I saw. It just didn't looks like it was about anything.

Yeah. We saw it at the dollar theater. It was OK... most of it was fairly annoying with the anachronistic songs, but I don't have teh desire to see it again, that's for sure.

I enjoyed it quite a bit
It's one of those movies that either works for you or it doesn't. It is so heavily stylized that if you can't snap into the artifical world (anachronism, overacting, etc), it's going to seem awful.
It worked for me, but I can see how it might not for everybody.

Yeah, that's exactly it - kinda like the last X-Files episode. But I'm glad you enjoyed MR =)

*lol* I thought I was the only one who hated it. Truly *hated* it. I'm glad I'm not alone!

I love your journal. Good taste in music, too.

Re: Roxanne

I honestly don't remember... I probably didn't get it... =P

Re: Musicals

I don't generally like musicals either. Not too crazy about Phantom, HMS Pinafore, Les Mis., Showboat or anything... Anne of Green Gables was interesting, but that's because I played in the pit orchestra. Still, I so prefer the book.

I think the only exception was The Sound of Music, it was so well done. I don't really like any of the other Rodgers & Hammerstein ones either.

I'm not all that fond of Mary Poppins or Victor/Victoria. At least, not that I'd watch them several times back-to-back every weekend for 6 years. I used to be able to recite Saul Chapman's screenplay, verbatim, in its entirety, sing all the songs in the right places and do all the actions. The other scary thing is that I subconsciously recognize a lot of the more obscure names in the credits and have very surreal light-bulb moments when I see those names elsewhere.

Anyway, it must be the Julie Andrews/Christopher Plummer combination.

I like opera though. Chinese and Italian opera. But English opera sounds all kinds of wrong to me. =)

Yeah, I'm a fellow Really Picky Person[tm]. =D

Heh, I'm REALLY late on this one, but, I tend to visit some people's LJ's every now and then just for fun.

But, anyway, there was a MUSICAL of Anne of Green Gables? Really? That's one of my favorite movies, I just can't imagine it being musical. Weird.

Oh yeah. As long as there's a story, someone will write songs for it =)

Back in the 60's and 70's (or something like that), they made musicals out of EVERYTHING - kinda like the current Disnifying of all our well-known stories. "The King and I", "Lost Horizons"(!!!), "Les Miserables", etc.

The Von Trapp Family story was about an Austrian Naval Officer fleeing from Nazi occupation (which is pretty heavy duty political drama) and they made that into "The Sound of Music". =}

I still can't get over the Anne of Green Gables thing. I just can't imagine Marilla singing or something.

Didn't know that about back in the '60s-70's tidbit, you learn something new everyday. :)

Never was a fan of musicals...
