Stupid Stupid Stupid

weather: sunny
outside: 19°C
mood: annoyed

We picked up Husband Guy's car this morning. The oxygen sensor in the emission control system was farked. Emission control is only covered under warranty for 3 years and the car is 4 years old (not 3yo like the phase shift in my brain thought).

So, $400.00 of parts and labour later, we still have to take it to AirCare ourselves again ($48.00 for the third time).

If anyone needs me, I'll be curled up behind my desk today.

Aaaah! That's so annoying. My friend just got a car that's giving him all sorts of troubles, but the dealer people are really nice and they're paying for it to get fixed because when they sould it they honestly thought it was in good condition. So, what is this AirCare thingo?

Re:
AirCare is an Emissions Standard test that all cars in the BC Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley have to pass in order to renew insurance (it's illegal to drive a car without car insurance here).

They measure the CO2 and two other pollutant/by-product emissions from your car. If your car puts out too much pollutant, that means it's not burning fuel efficiently. You have to get your car fixed at an AirCare certified repair centre and take the test again until you pass.

Re:
Hey, that's a really good idea... Washington is getting pretty poluted, what with all the heavy Seattle traffic. Does the rest of Canada have some sort of system like that?

Re:
I'm not sure if the rest of Canada has AirCare... I thought the US had something similar as well.

In some places we have something called Emissions testing, but it doesn't put you in a position where it's *illegal* to drive, only in a position where you really *don't* want to drive without insurance. You do have to get your car fixed through emissions, but it's not strictly inforced, and it only applies to cars purchased past the year '95 I believe.

Ah, beaureaucracy...

Hmm... it's possible that we have something similar to AirCare, but I've never heard of it...

We have the emissions testing thing too. Cars suck. Just when you get them all paid off they break and you have to start all over again.
