Good Health Habits

Since more than a few people on my Friends List are talking about cleaning up their health act, I started thinking about my progress. I've gotten a lot better over the last few years. I don't think my body has quite completely forgiven me for the abuse I put it through in my late teens/early 20's, but hey, it's a start.

I'm actually being sane about sleeping. I had A LOT of trouble sleeping and I still have sleeping issues. The dark circles under my eyes are burned in permanently. I used to think that since I can't sleep anyway, I may as well milk all 24 hours in the day for all they're worth. *BZZZZT* Wrong answer. My immune system went bananas and was this || short of completely shutting down. It's still kind of bananas, but it's much better now.

My goal right now is to get to bed before midnight... earlier, if I can manage it. I still don't fall asleep for hours, but I have fewer episodes of lying awake until morning.

I drink a lot of water during the day. I have a 700 mL water bottle that gets refilled at least 3-4 times a day while I'm at work... [It might be more. I should do a tally]. I'm drinking and peeing, drinking and peeing. All day. I'm actually starting to get to the point where I'm not peeing as much per refill of water. This is a good sign. It means my body isn't so filled with crap that it's fighting tooth and nail to get rid of it all.

I don't drink alcohol regularly anymore. Not that I had a lot when I was drinking regularly anyway... a beer or two every Friday, getting completely smashed about 2-3 times a year. I was a social drinker and a Very Happy Drunk. =) I didn't find it hard to stop; I just stopped around September 2000. I started ordering a half Orange Juice, half Sprite drink. I've had an occasional glass of red wine since ... and I just remembered that I still haven't had any of the red wine from our wedding. Oh well...

I eat. Yeah, I have to actively remember to eat. I can go for days without eating, I eat because it scares people that I don't. I'm getting much better though.

Things I still need to work at:

Eating lunch every day. I try, I really do. Bungo and I try to pack leftovers from the night before for lunch. I don't want to go out for lunch because it's a bigger waste of money.

Exercising. I had a Fitness Unlimited membership a while ago. I liked it there because the first floor was Co-Ed, but the entire second floor was Ladies Only. They had free classes there too, but I didn't go. I cancelled my membership because I couldn't find the time to go. I suppose you could say it was an excuse and if it were important enough, I would make the time. What can I say? I guess it's not important enough to me. *shrug*

Bungo and I work very close to each other, so we take short, half hour walks around lunchtime almost every day, either to go to the bank or run some errands or just walking down to False Creek.

Well, the six people who were laid off in January left offices open. We had a company-wide bidding for those offices. You tell the Admin person that which spot you're interested in. Out of the people interested, the person with the highest seniority (by hire date, then alphabetical by first name - that's it, I'm changing my name to begin with an underscore =P) gets it. I didn't bother bidding for anything - I was one of the last ones hired, there's really no point.

I'm smack-dab in the middle of a big open floor. The only division thing around me is my desk and a gigantic pillar that my desk faces. I kinda like it this way. It's wide open and very free-flowing. Everyone was joking that I now have the largest office in the entire building, I can decorate it as I please =D

I've seen the offices, they're upstairs and they're pretty small (one of them was painted lime green and bright orange by one of the guys =). There are outer offices with windows that are much better than the inner offices with no windows, but I wouldn't have a chance at those either.

There are some window spots opening up on the floor I'm on right now, so I may take one of those instead.
