Where have all the line breaks gone?
    Long time passing.
Where have all the line breaks gone?
    Long time ago.
Where have all the line breaks gone?
evan and brad thought they were useless and took'em all ooouuut, ev'ry one.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they eeeeeeever learn?

I hope tonight's maintenace fixes the missing <br> tags in Auto-Format Mode. Although, it's apparently only happening to my journal entries. =P I haven't changed anything, my "Don't Auto-Format" is still unchecked, but all my journal entries are missing all line breaks. =P

Scheduled Maintenance Tonight Beginning At 1 a.m. PDT

As Brad said, last night's upgrade didn't go very well.

We're trying round 2 (same upgrade, but with much more
information about what didn't work last night) tonight.
The site will either be down, or some journals on the
Chef Cluster (where am I?) will either be read-only or
    unavailalbe [sic].

We're planning on beginning around 1 a.m. PDT
(0600 GMT), and assuming no more disasters crop up,
we should be done by 3.

Thanks yet again for your patience.

[Update - 1132h]

Apparently, a few days ago, it was decided that the HTML would be tidier if <br>'s shouldn't be inserted in to certain tags (like <pre> and all <table> tags). The theory being, "if I'm writing tables into my journal entries, I know what I'm doing." Yes, I do know what I'm doing. And I don't mind putting in my own tags manually, but to change the rules on me without telling me was not nice.

No biggie. Now that I know what it is, I'll just have the "Don't Auto-Format" toggled at all times and always do my own formatting then.

And play with PalmLJ!!!! =) Can I be sick? Please?

Yesterday, I tried to figure out PalmLJ, but I got stuck. I got it installed and running, but in HotSync mode, you have to add users/profiles through the pilot-link conduit. There was no documentation on where that's supposed to be and what to do. I poked around in the most obvious places and I couldn't find anything that made sense.

And the source code for pilot-link doesn't compile under Cygwin. Bleh... I talked to Kev Vance about it and it turns out that PalmLJ just doesn't support Win32.

So, I'm borrowing Co-worker Boy's Palm for the weekend (he leaves it at work anyway!) and I'm going to try setting it up on Heretic. Co-worker Boy says he's sync'ed it with Gnome before... about a year and a half ago. This should mean, then, that with übercool Ximian, a year and a half later, I should be able to do it.

Palm Problems

music: Chopin - Romantic Piano

I got Dmitri set up. The Palm is Russian and his name is Dmitri Mendeleev =) I ran PilotSync and did the Initial Sync. At first, I set the $PILOTRATE to 115200.

This succeeded and it grabbed the user info from the Palm.

I unpacked PalmLJ-1.2.0.prc

I su'ed to root and did
% ln -s /dev/sttyS0 /dev/pilot; chmod 777 /dev/sttyS0; export PILOTRATE=115200

On the Palm, I went System->Prefs->Direct Serial->Details and set the Speed to 115200.

Then, still as root, I cd'ed to where the .prc was and did
% pilot-xfer -i PalmLJ-1.2.0.prc

It asked me to press the HotSync button, so I did.

Then, as the Palm showed "Identifying User", my console would spit up either one of these errors:

    Error accepting data on /dev/pilot
    pi_accept: Connection timed out

    or

    Wrong packet type on queue

I tried reducing the speed to 9600 in all three places and still got the same errors.

*sigh* I'm going to deal with some snail mail.
