Excel LJ Client doesn't play nicely with OpenOffice 2.0

weather: mainly clear
outside: 2.6°C
mood: almost amused
Repro Steps:

  1. Download "livejournal-client.xls".
    1. Optionally scan for viruses... "Written by brad, by hand, during a long, boring meeting" is probably enough that most people (myself included) would trust as virus-free, but scanning MS Office documents with macros is a good habit to get into anyway.
  2. Double-click the file to open in OOo Calc.
  3. Click "Enable Macros".
  4. Type in username and password in the respective fields.
  5. Double-click the grey area (I couldn't figure out what else to do with the grey text area to make it act as I expected).
  6. Paste test text in.
  7. Click "Post to LiveJournal".
  8. Wait 10 minutes.
  9. Refresh main journal view.

Expected: Post appears at the top of journal recent view.

Actual: Nothing happens. No errors, nothing that indicates anything happened. No new post in journal.

  • I have WinXP, SP2
  • No versions of Microsoft Office have ever been installed on this machine
  • OpenOffice 2.0 is installed with ActiveX Controls
  • I installed MSXML 4.0 separately because I saw something about that in the macro code. At first I installed the Parser only, no SDK, shut down Calc, re-opened it and it still didn't post. Then I installed the SDK and tried again, it still didn't post anything to my journal.
  • My firewall didn't say anything about blocking anything outgoing from OpenOffice Calc or to LJ or anything that looks like it might have been trying.

Ah well, it would have been fun =)

A Little Boy

weather: mainly clear
outside: 1.6°C
mood: *heehee*
We have a little boy. Well, he's not ours ours =) but he's staying with us for 3 weeks.

It's our Little Nephew Boy. Yes, this one. =) He's userinfothe Husband's Cousin-K's son who came to Vancouver with my Mother-in-Law especially to see snow. This silly Cousin Girl writes up a parental consent letter in English, but leaves no contact info for herself or her husband, no relationship information between my Mother-In-Law and her son, and no address where her son is staying. Mother-In-Law had an interesting time with Canadian Immigration this morning. =\

Anyway, the Little Nephew Boy has been sqeeing to go up to Grouse Mountain since the plane landed. =D

I wasn't sure how I'd react to having a child in the house after not being around children for so long. So far, I'm just laughing and enjoying all the rambunctious 5 year old boy antics.

He announced that he wants to sleep with userinfoHusband Guy and me in our bed tonight. I asked him if he was afraid of 舅舅* squishing him flat and he said "no"... so we'll see how that goes XD

He's refusing to... oh, nevermind... now he's refusing to take a bath... no, he's fine... well, he doesn't want his bear underwear, he wants the blue pair on pain of death... he insists on giving my Husband the golf ball first.

XD XD XD BWAHAHAHA!! I'm glad tomorrow is Saturday XD

* 舅舅 - "uncle"; mother's brother (elder or younger).
