Not Bad...

weather: partially sunny
outside: 19°C
mood: contemplative

So, the September 11th bullshit is not as insane as I thought it would be.

Or maybe I've made really good choices as to what LJ users I beFriend. And they've made good choices of Friends as well. There's a fairly strong anti-"9/11" sentiment from everyone on my Friends list. My FriendsFriends page and everyone that I have bookmarked for reading is ranting that this stupid thing getting so out of hand, Bush is an ass, etc.

No one I know is making cheesy September 11 graphics, posting stupid images of American flags waving like an animated fractal as opposed to real wind. No one is passing me stupid Internet chain letters involving forged Nostradamus quotes - last year, I threatened to singe the ass off of anyone who did that.

Or maybe I'm just getting really good at ignoring people and things.

I'm not writing what I think. You don't want to know what I think. Trust me, you don't. I've learned that people trulytruly do not want to know what I think even though they're adamant that they "value my opinion". I've only written a short thing to someone I really trusted today.

Heh, it's true though =)

This is like a 180 from last year. Well, okay, maybe not a 180, kinda like a 90 degree turn from last year.

I'd say I'm about 45-90 degrees. Even in the aftermath, I wasn't all that jingoistic. I was more unhappy that all these people had chosen NOW to be patriotic when I was the only person who stood up for the flag passing during parades for years. I hate surface actions, even surface actions that seem to be well-intentioned. Don't be patriotic just cuz two towers fell down and for $DEITY's sake don't do it cuz it's trendy.

And of course now I just hate that the whole loss of civil liberties is okay because it's in the name of security.

But I already ranted about this once. I don't need to do so again. *gets down from 9/11 soapbox*

Hey! You're Canadian! Why do you give a fuck?

OK, just a joke.

Yeah, for me...this whole one year thing got out of hand. It just don't feel right. I'm sort of desensitized because I didn't really go through it like everyone else. I got my news information from the China Daily (the English newspaper in China--highly uninformitive) and Chinese news.

Anyway, yeah. I'm sure we disagree about what each other thinks, but I don't think we're too far off from each other...

Re:
Nope, we get it plastered all over our TVs and newspapers as well because a lot of our media is US-based. The spin is quite different, it's "What does it mean for Canada if the US goes to war? What's Canada's position as the peace-keeping voice in the UN?" ... that kinda thing.

One of the editorials I read was basically saying that Canada isn't very separate from the US. The US treats Canada as an extra market, etc, etc.

Thanks! I appreciate your saying so. =D

I've been a harsh critic of American foreign policy decisions since I became wise/old enough to understand the intricacies of geopolitics. I no longer write about my thoughts on policy decisions though because as much as I like intelligent debate, it's very hard to get it through a public place like LJ. Gotta head back to political science/law courses in university for that now.

I know. I've learned long ago that you can't have a battle of wits with a bunch of unarmed people. =P

I decided that the ranting about how overblown it all was was getting overblown and just kept quiet on the subject.

I have learned much the same thing. Very few people actually ever want my unvarnished opinion...
