Wedding Jewellery Etiquette

weather: cloudy

I was "asked to the Prom", as it were... which is pretty amazing for an old hag like me. It's a gala dinner cruise and I'd be going with Friend Dude. Husband Guy also knows Friend Dude and he's okay with it. He said that if I think I'll have fun, then I should go, even if I'm not going with him. I'm not so sure yet...

Question: is it appropriate to wear my wedding jewellery (engagement ring, wedding ring, anniversary band) to a formal social event as the guest of a male friend?

It's a formal event, so it would be appropriate as a part of my ensemble. I am never without my rings, so it feels strange to go without them. But, since I'm not with my husband, would it be a faux pas to be wearing them all? Since I won't know anyone there, I'm not sure I want to be in the awkward position of having people mistake me for Friend Dude's wife... ={

Opinions please... =}

I say go. Get dressed up and go have fun. Just know that you're probably going to have to explain that you're just a friend on more than one occasion. People are nosey by nature. I never knew how nosey until I showed my engagement ring to someone and they said "wow! Is that REAL!?" I mean.. come on, like it's any of their business. It's a formal event where everyone is bringing a 'date' (for want of a better word). You're going to be mistaken for his wife whether you wear your rings or not. Some people are just going to be nosey and ask.

=P Jeez, some peoples' kids... One of W's [girl] cousins asked to see it, made a huge obvious gesture of comparing mine to hers and loudly inquired as to the carat weight. *roll eyes at ceiling* =S

But yeah, you're right, it's going to be a bit of explaining anyway... thanks =)
