Anyone else notice that their penmanship has completely gone down the drain from lack of use? I can't print as neatly as I used to. Or I notice that I actually have to try to make it neat. It doesn't come naturally like it used to.

*sigh* Oh well...

Funnily enough, I've been complimented on my Chinese penmanship, but my English is barely ledgible. Heh. (I find it funny that you're listening to Cheng Long as well. :P)

Or, in contrary, by over-use.

My attendings still compliment me on my legible handwriting in charts. We'll see how much longer that lasts. Already today I couldn't read something I'd written only ten minutes after the fact.

I think it's because something is compensating for you being in the medical profession =D Somehow, it seems to be a characteristic of all doctors to have handwriting that can be mistaken for Arabic. =)

It seems like anyone under 30 tends to have horrible handwriting!
My fther went to Ctholic school and was taught penmanship by ruler wielding nuns. His handwriting is a work of art!
I have had to re-write the wedding thank-you's over and over again just to make them ledgebile.

Keyboards and snazzy fonts are really to blame

...now I'm tempted to ask people to post samples of their handwriting so I can see and compare. ;) But then I wouldn't be getting work done. (Work gets in the way of all great ideas.)

You should. =)

Not that my penmanship was ever that great to begin with, but it certainly has gotten worse. I hardly ever write anything anymore, usually just checks or notes in a meeting. It's a pity, though, 'cause I do so relish a good quality writing implement and I hardly ever use them anymore.

I think my handwriting is decent. Sometimes I even think it looks good. Unfortunately I know it's just me being delusional. When I look back on my notes, I always think "what crappy writing I have!"
Mar. 6th, 2003 06:43 pm (UTC)
Do you ever look at your writing from the back of the piece of paper and think, "gee, that doesn't look too bad from this angle..."? =)

Oh, I agree!

I think my handwriting is sloppier than it was, say, ten years ago. (Though Stella still thinks it looks good.)

I blame it on the fact that I do a lot more typing than handwriting, and on the fact that there's so much more typing in general that not as much emphasis seems to be laid on good penmanship any more. Still, I think it's a pity.

Absolutely. I try to write paper letters and I was doing well for a while, but it's just way faster to type =)

Oh, mine is perfectly legible as well, but I just notice that it takes a lot more effort to make it as nice as it used to be. =)

Every time a new school year starts, sometimes I feel like I've actually forgotten how to form certain letters. It's insanity.

I actually really like my English handwriting, which doesn't resemble "letters" so much as "the deranged scribblings of an illiterate savage." My Chinese handwriting is atrocious; I've never been satisfied with it. I don't know why; my characters are generally balanced, and all that, but it just looks really dumb and childish.
Mar. 8th, 2003 05:25 pm (UTC)
I hate my own Chinese writing. I get compliments, but I completely understand the "dumb and childish" thing. I type things into a doc and print them out whenever possible. Even personal letters =)

I've seen friends' writing and of the ones I think have nice Chinese writing, they're not always "balanced" or "have strength" or just don't look the way you're taught it's supposed to be... so maybe that's something to take note of...

I used to have fantastic handwriting in both English and Chinese, and my English handwriting is still pretty good. Chinese, however, *cringes* It's been almost seven years now since I really needed to do anything Chinese. A month or so ago, I decided to write out a poem in Chinese, and yes, I was so very ashamed of my Chinese handwriting. *embarrassed*
