Separating the War from the Troops

weather: raining
outside: 10°C
mood: contemplative
It's somewhat shocking to me that people have a such a hard time with separating the soldiers from the war. People really do equate them... I don't know what to say, I'm not even from a military family, I have no military background and I've always understood this.

But then again, I have proven Cultural Osmosis abilities.

The military is NO PLACE for individuality and questioning everything (that would be journalism). Individuality is trained out of a soldier from Day 1. There is no other way to get what they need done without doing that. If you have tens of thousands of people all thinking and doing their own thing, it plain does not work.

Whether it is right or wrong for them to be doing something is not for them to decide. They're trained to do it and when the order comes, they do it.

I'd say journalism isn't quite the place either... But that would require much more explanation...

Some people just have incredible loyalty to their country to the point where they feel it is their duty to serve and protect. I for one am glad those people exist.

Interesting you mention about being stuck in the military it's frighteningly true. This an organization in the states that tries to help those in the service with their sitation: http://www.objector.org/ccco/whoweare.html. (Interesting, they even have Noam Chomsky as a sponsor)

Yeah, attacking the soldiers don't really do much good, they're just pawns in this game. It's a real pity too, the mentioned organization is apparently getting a large number of phonecalls regarding this war. Many of these soldiers seem to be on side with those that protest the war but they don't know what they can do.

You have to also remember that at one time people tried to use the "they were just doing their job" to defend themselves... you recall a little skirmish called the Second World War? Joining a military sets one up for potential moral problems, such as running a concentration camp, shooting innocents, bombing schools, and plowing retreating soldiers under...

People say incredibly naive things like "Well, those soldiers should have objected, they could have killed their leader or something" when refering to the german soldiers from WW2. Soldiers are part of a whole, and if the whole is rotten, then the soldiers stink too.

Remember, the soldiers are only guilty of "War Crimes" if they're on the losing side.
