Palm Tree Café

weather: cloudy
outside: 10°C
mood: wistful
Here's a pic of MIL Woman's Palm Tree Café - 棕櫚咖啡. It's the entire top floor of that building. Here's another promo page with a picture from the inside. It's quite a view, if the fog weren't there, but they're in that famous foggy mountain area, so they kinda had to get the fog =)

The first and second floors belong to the Little Wooden Hut Inn/Lodge, 小木屋. They're right next door to the brick house that the Classical Chinese author, 三毛, San Mao, lived for a long time. I think that's a list of his work... it's insanely hard to find this guy because the popular Japanese cartoon cat, Doraemon, is "三毛" as well. =P

The Little Wooden Hut Lodge is at the 清泉 Hot Springs, about an hour (1½?) southeast of Hsin Chu City, Taiwan. It's in a tourist area... or it's supposed to be when there isn't the danger of it crawling with the SARS virus. I'm worried about her being there. I'm worried about what it's going to do to their business. *sigh*

All your spare 出入平安 (general wellbeing) and 生意興隆 (business prosperity) vibes to MIL Woman, please =}

And if anyone actually goes, please go say hi to 新娘子的婆婆 (The Bride's Mother-In-Law) =D She speaks English, Mandarin, Taiwanese and (HaiLu) Hakka =)

屋 is literally "house". I translated it as "hut", because that's what little wooden houses are, to me =)

Does she live in Taiwan? I thought she had just gone to visit there, but I must've been confused on the info.

She lives in Vancouver with us. But now that she has the café, she'll be mostly living in Taiwan and coming back only occasionally. She has family there, so she'll have a place to stay wherever she goes.

Wow, that's really nice for her! Is Husband Guy's family mostly in Taiwan, China, or Canada? [Or anywhere else?] Also, do you still have a lot of family in China?

His Mom's side is mostly in Taiwan, his Dad's side is mostly here.

A lot of my family are in China (Guangzhou, Shanghai), some are in HK and some are in New Zealand. So, yeah, a lot of hoping and praying that everyone stays healthy. =\

I'm sorry you have to worry about this. I feel so far away from SARS but the truth is it could get here really fast, especially if it's already in Toronto. And I wonder how many Westerners are in HK as we speakk [not that I think the lives of Westerners are more important, what I mean is that they could bring it home].

Actually, I'm amazed that it's not worse in Vancouver. I thought we were the stop-over connecting Asia from Eastern Canada... ie. all flights from Asia would land in Vancouver first before heading over to Toronto.

Also, there are a lot of Asians in Vancouver (you oughtta know...) so it's lucky that someone didn't get on a flight to Vancouver before we knew what this thing was and start spreading it over here.
