Yeah, it's a bit embarrassing that it got me too. There were all the telltale signs of a hoax. No contact info, the money not quite working out right ($5-10K fee is way too big a range to be quoting with no explanation and at $5K, there's almost nothing in it for the guys who run the thing), etc.

I must be getting old or complacent or both =P I used to have a much better sense for bullshit like this.

The thing to take away from it, though, is if the media can be stupid about this, they can be this stupid if not worse with bigger and more important news... like WAR, for example.

Yep. I shoulda figured it out too- but the whole "It was on TV though!!!" mentality kicked in...*sigh* I think we're both just complacent. Heh.

You know, a lot of people have asked me how I could deal with living in China, the government and how they control the media, and this and the war coverage stuff is a perfect example. Most Americans just take what is seen on TV and believe it, and I think that we really can't trust it anymore, and it's really no different...

EXACTLY. We live in much less of a democracy than we tout our own horns for. What, you think it's your choice just because you put an 'X' on a piece of paper and shoved it in a cool-looking box? A) It's a secret ballot, you really don't know. The published vote counts could be pulled out of someone's ass. And B) it's called the American Electoral College, folks.

*nods*

Again, yes. I don't like this electoral college business. I don't understand...Gah. Anyway, I've been saying ever since I got back that I would much more live in a country where my freedom is 'limited', than live in one where only the illusion of freedom is there.

Bleergh... "Much less of a democracy than we toot our own horns for." "Much less of a democracy than we tout ourselves as."
