Danny Boy

weather: sunny
outside: 17°C
mood: happy
music: Ben Heppner - Danny Boy (Weatherley/trad. Irish Folk)
Speaking of Ben Heppner, I found Ben's rendition of Danny Boy. It's in an album called Songs of Earth, Echoes of Heaven.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow, —
Oh, Danny boy, O Danny boy, I love you so!

But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Avè there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

Truly magnificent voice.

I adore that piece of music. I've played a band arrangement of it more than once, and my friend Sarah and I were interested enough in it to look up the words. (I guess our band director did his job well.)

It has other meaning for us as well though. We made up our own words... encompassing other band experiences we had. Ah, the memories.

The lyrics were written by Fred Weatherley in 1911, the same English lawyer fellow who wrote "The Roses of Picardy". But the tune is 17th century Irish. =)

Haha, those are the best =)

Random and not having to do with this entry, but just because you're smart...
Do you know if there is a way to somehow link to an mp3 on LJ? I suppose I'd have to have the mp3 on a website and then link to that? Is there any easy way I can do this?

Yeah, that's about the only way to do it. LJ doesn't host unspecified data... You can do a regular "click here" link to it (my instructions here).

This is the song that my son and I danced to at his wedding. (his name is Daniel) I used to sing this to him , or parts of it anyway, as a lullabye when he was a baby. I LOVE this song!

What a perfect song for a Mother-Son dance! It's so beautiful.
