Noise with Chocolates

weather: cloudy
outside: 4°C
mood: *LMAO*
Company e-mail from my Office Manager Lady:

The folks upstairs apologized for the noise with chocolates - they're in the kitchen.

"noise with chocolates"? How do you make a lot of noise using chocolates? Were they eating really loudly? Were they smashing the chocolates against their floor (and thus, our ceiling)? And why do these people feel the need to be in our kitchen now?

Oh, the amusement to be had with dangling modifiers and grammar tree parsing engines with quirky senses of humour... =D

Hey what about those orange wedges in a ball that those people on the commercials are always whacking? :)

Goodness, I had to read it three times to recognize the intended meaning. Crazy garden-path sentences. You either read them right or read them wrong, and it takes a bit of effort realize the other way to read it.

I didn't realize the 'right' way to read it at all until Ms. Bride pointed it out. I think I might not have been speaking enough to other native English speakers lately...

OK, I read that at least 10 times before I realised what she was trying to say. Oy!

Okay that took me several tries too!! I would have thrown the note out and proclaimed my office manager crazy before I ever got the chocolates.
