Trade in Invite Codes for Paid LJ Service

weather: sunny
outside: 4°C
mood: happy
"Coupons for invite codes are now available."

I find that Brad doesn't explain things very well sometimes.

  1. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/invite/gen.bml and make sure you've generated all the codes you're entitled to.
  2. Make sure the e-mail address for your LJ is set to the one you want to receive the coupon in.
  3. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/invite/claim.bml to get LJ to e-mail you a coupon code (it looks a bit like an Invite Code, but there's a dash in it).
  4. Go to http://www.livejournal.com/pay/. In the "Add to Order..." section, select the service/user you want to buy, click "Add to order". In the "Have a coupon?" section, enter the coupon code that LJ e-mailed to you.

Add all the services and people in this one session. You have to use up the entire value of the coupon in one transaction or the credit will be lost. To use up the maximum value of the coupon, you have to buy enough for the exact amount or in an amount over it and pay the extra.

You could use less than the coupon amount if you don't want to pay extra, as long as you realize that you're not going to be able to use the rest of it later. =)

I've been reluctant to try and redeem the coupons in the store because I have two coupons I want to use, and I'm uneasy about the coupon redemption system. I worry that it might consume the coupon upon entry, rather than upon checkout...

Hmm... I didn't try to use two because it didn't occur to me that it was a smarter thing to do at the time, but I'm not sure what you mean by "consume the coupon upon entry" though. When you add the coupon, it shows up in your "Purchase Items" list, it shows you how it gets applied to your total and you can remove it.

Ah, ok. I just worry that when I entered the coupon code, that would be when it was redeemed and used, not upon checkout.

Are you just the cat's meow or what?
What useful information you've posted - unlike what was posted on the front page of LJ about the discontinuation of codes.

This information came at the perfect time. I was going to send in my renewal for LJ tomorrow - now I don't have to! I'm all set for another year! And it's thanks to you for posting this timely information.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Yeah, I was confused as to why they didn't put the redemption stuff on the main news page. ??? Maybe they don't want people to know about it??

=) I think it was one of those whirlwind things that they wanted to get done and out of the way. =)

50¢ per code? Eh, that's not very much. Oh well.

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure what I'll do with my 50¢ coupon.
