What's My Name Again?

weather: mostly cloudy
outside: 14°C
mood: unfocussed

  • 2003 Income Taxes. No, I haven't filed yet and I'm starting to go ape-shit inside because it's not done yet. I seem to keep getting tax thingies up until the very end of March, so I've had to learn to sit on my hands until April. Otherwise, I'm sending in a zillion Amendments, which just screams AUDIT ME.

This year. AAAAAAAUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! The box labels aren't quite matching up on me. I DON'T HAVE A FARM, MAN. I would call the CCRA and sit on hold for five hours to talk to someone for two minutes. BUT, I don't have Line 150 from last year with me, so I'll have to wait until I look that up to call. I probably won't be able to do that until tomorrow.

*whimper* I just want to file the damned thing. I may end up putting in my best guess and let them deal with it. I have two reasonable guesses I can make. I'd put in the one that gives them more money, just in case.

  • Grandma's old clothes. I forgot to put the 20+ bags of clothes outside for the charity on their scheduled pickup in our area. I suck. And the Charity Lady even sent me an e-mail reminder yesterday =P

  • Husband is still sort of beating himself over the head about the bird. How many ways can I say, "it's okay; it was an accident; we'll learn and move on" very sympathetically? He's a lot better now, he's looking up all kinds of cockatiel care things online. It's making him feel like he's going to do better for the next bird, which is a good thing. We're on a breeder's waiting list for a hand raised cockatiel. We went to see them over the long weekend and we saw one of the two chicklets that we might get if the people before us on the list end up not taking him/her/can't-tell-yet. We were laughing our asses off, "he looks like a little turkey". =D

  • Grandpa was here for a week and is leaving today. Boy, oh boy. More on this later.

  • Mother-In-Law is back in town tomorrow morning and I'm picking her up.

*petpetpet* I so know how you feel about your taxes. I normally try to do mine asap, but this year, I left all my tax information at home... so yes. But I finally finished them this weekend, and they're in the mail now. Am feeling very accomplished.

Good luck with getting your next cockatiel!

I envy my friends who can file, be done with in February and get their refunds in a week! I start entering everything as soon as we get some of the slips and then keep adding stuff as they come in.

Good luck with getting your next cockatiel!

Thanks! We need a name for the new little guy. The difficulty is that you can't tell the sex of a Lutino cockatiel until after its first molt (6-8 months), so we're trying to pick a gender-neutral name. You don't really want a girl named "Bob". =D

Once I had my T4 two weeks into January and had my refund before 99% of the country had their T4s. I think I got it back in early Feb. that year.

My dad has QuickTax on his computer so I just toddle over there with my slips (ALWAYS seem to forget my GST though) and voila! it's done. Seems I get just over $600 back this year, which is about right because I overpay my taxes by about that much. *shrug* Whatever.

Re: Tax comment
I always max out my RRSP and contribute right up to the deadline. The last few years, the deadline has been March 01, so my March contribution will sometimes count as well. Which means I have to wait for it and sometimes deal with the over-contribution.

But some of my other slips, I swear they could have sent it to me much earlier. =P

I've never had to deal with GST explicitly.

I file it online now. www.ufile.ca; $20 + tax for the both of us; optimizes and shuffles stuff around for me.

Re: Tax comment
I've NEVER had enough extra funds to be able to max out my RRSP... wish I did. But as a single person on a modest income supporting myself (not living at home, not sharing expenses) I don't have much extra cash to be able to redirect to an RRSP. Unfortunately my company doesn't RRSP match either.

As for your slips, I've known companies with the opinion that if it ain't Feb. 28th then they're not mailing them out. Pffftttt!

GST? You probably make too much to qualify for it.

Online filiing? Hey, I can mail it in for free. So why would I want to PAY? My taxes are simple enough that QuickTax and a review by my CMA father is enough. ;)

*clueless* What's a Lutino cockatiel? And how do you tell the sex of the cockatiel? Feathers?

Cockatiels come in different colour patterns, most have yellow/white heads, but some have grey or brown patches in different places. A Lutino (or "Fancy") is all yellow/white. No grey or brown at all.

With the other cockatiels, there's something about the markings on the underside of the tail (or something like that) that you can use to tell (I don't remember). But Lutinos all look the same from hatching to about 8 months.

"Bob" = short for "Roberta?" ;)

Yeah, but the bird won't understand "Roberta" if it's been called "Bob" all its life =)

Brim acts like a turkey all the time, so we enjoy teasing him at around turkey-eating season.

If you get stuck for ideas, and even google won't help you, you could poll through LJ!

I hate taxes. But then again who doesn't.

Your husband's gotta let go of the bird. I know it means a lot, but life doesn't stand still ... *shrugs*.

And as for family staying over? I'd rather be in debt and pay for them to stay in a 5-star hotel, than deal with the chaos of family staying over =P. --Ray
