GMail and LJ

weather: light rain
outside: 21°C
mood: bleh
GMail is marking my LJ comment notifications as Spam.

So, if I'm slow to respond or don't respond within a reasonable amount of time, feel free to kick me in the shins.

I kinda knew this would happen. Every time you hit the Report Spam thing, you have no idea what pieces of information it's going to use to determine spam. If they're looking at "the last mail server that it came from", then they'd see the pattern that it's coming from LJ.

Hopefully, if enough people are hitting "Not Spam", this will get evened out. But y'd think that if I Star the message and I add a label to it, it can't very well be spam. =P

O_O But Gmail isn't treating my LJ comments as spam!

Some are, some aren't. I thought LJ was still having mail problems, but I found a pile of comments when I went to clear out the Spam =P

Perhaps, by accident.

Spammers use peoples' LJ addresses. LJ doesn't discriminate, it forwards everything. When you see spam, it could be forwarded through LJ. So when you report that as spam, there's no telling how GMail is trying to figure out how to filter.

I haven't encountered that problems. I just don't like the way it lumps everything together in one e-mail. =/

I've noticed that it's gotten better at putting the right posts in the same conversation though.

I don't believe that the emails are flagged globally as spam... if they're using something like spamassassin, it allows for user filters....

I know my LJ comments are sitting in my inbox just fine, already labelled "livejournal" for archival purposes.

For a while, it looked like all my lj_notify mail was in Spam. =P

Not too familiar with SpamAssassin, I've only worked with Sophos PureMessage. What I'm afraid of is that they have server filters that will toss the mail even before it gets to my white list/black list.

You just need to avoid talking about how to "MAKE MONEY FAST selling genr!c v1agkr4 on the internet while increasing your p3ni5 size exp0nent1ally!!!!1!" in your LJ posts.

Damnit, thanks to you I've had Kakariko village stuck in my head all night and all morning. :)

I feel like I should be wandering around some giant mushrooms or something.

It's okay. I like that feeling. :)

BTW, I read the synopsis for the ST episode that was linked. I'd never seen that episode but it sounds like one I would have liked to have seen. I assume you've seen it?

Yes, it was a very popular episode. Many fans raved for years and years about it. I think it won a Golden Globe or Viewer's Choice some other prestigious award in several categories, musical score, screenplay and Patrick Stewart for Best Actor (or some combination like that). =)
