We're Not Done Yet...

weather: clear
outside: 23°C
mood: tired
The Car Girl had been through some crap just after we got her. I had kept a running tab of the happenings since the second accident.

Well. It was determined that we were not at fault for it. But because the other guy's insurance company is in Ontario, we had to pay the deductible first and we'd get reimbursed when his insurance company paid ICBC for the damages and the deductible.

The accident happened in early October 2003. By November 2003, fault had been determined. It's now *look at date* July 2004, we even got a notice to remind us that our insurance is up for renewal again and we still don't have our deductible back.

I called our Claims Lady, Carol, yesterday. She's on holidays until August 03, but I was forwarded to general customer service. They told me that the insurance company in Ontario hadn't coughed up the money after repeated requests. The last time Carol prodded them about it was in April 2004. There is now a collections agency involved.

*sigh* It's a good thing we're not in dire straits and desperate for that $300.

Oh, I LOVE the underground parking lot we're in right now. I'm next to a pillar and I've learned to squeak myself REALLY close to it. On the other side of the pillar is a co-worker and I know they'll be careful to not thump my car with the door. On the other side of me is a black Audi S4. Yeah, she's SO NOT going to touch me. =)

Wow yeah that sucks.

I'll pay the higher premium for the better insurance company. The sketchy ones... man, you never know. Some auto shops won't even accept the non-major ones because they might be sketchy like the one your insurance company is dealing with.

Hey, what was Knight Ridah? I don't recognize it.

We don't have a choice in BC. ICBC is the only auto insurance agency in British Columbia. But our premiums aren't that bad, ~$1700(CAD) a year for $3M liability, $300 deductible. That's at a 40% discount and we get a whole bunch of other things because we're both RoadStars (5 years in a row with no at-fault accidents) ... in fact, we may even qualify for RoadStar Gold (12 years claims free).

The Knight Ridah was a black Acura 1.6EL =) It doesn't accelerate well from a full stop, we were beaten by a bus going downhill once and we started having problems passing AirCare emissions standards, so we decided to ditch it while we could =)

Is that true of British Columbia only? Or is the rest of Canada like that too, where there's a single Insurance Company that represents everybody?

Ohhh. An Acura EL. Trippy. No wonder I don't recognize it. I saw it in your Fotki before, and I was like "WTH is that?" but never got around to asking you about it. I wasn't even aware that there was a Canada Only Acura car.

I'm not entirely sure, it sounds like it's BC only. I've never lived anywhere else in Canada. I have a whole pile of Ontarian friends who would know =)

Oh, I didn't realize the EL wasn't available in the US... I'm still choked that the TSX is available in black exterior and black interior in the States but not here. If we wanted the black exterior, we'd be stuck with the beige/taupe/oatmeal interior *blech* =P
Jul. 24th, 2004 04:01 pm (UTC)
It's definitely not like that in Ontario. We have more than one insurance company.

Oooh I like the TSX. That might be my next car. I need a new car soon. But then again, PB already has the TL and I don't know if we really want 2 Acuras...
Jul. 24th, 2004 04:06 pm (UTC)
For some reason, I thought he got an IS300...
Jul. 24th, 2004 04:14 pm (UTC)
Yeah, he did. But his lease was up and he got the TL. Actually, he was going to get the TSX, but then when he got into the dealership, saw the TL, he loved it. And got it. :P

Hey do you have a name for your car?
Jul. 24th, 2004 06:37 pm (UTC)
Ah, I see =)

We don't have a real name for her yet =P She's still The Car Girl ...
Jul. 29th, 2004 04:50 am (UTC)
TL is sweet.

Do you guys have a name for your car(s)?
Jul. 29th, 2004 06:00 am (UTC)
Well, when PB had his IS300, we called her Lex (how original). But it's been kinda hard to name the TL so far.

My car's name is Oz. (for Audi, but again, how original... but it sounds cool!)

Sometimes, we'll name the car by taking the license plate letters and making a word with all the letters in order.

FPL = "flagpole"
LCP = "helicopter", "kaleidescope" or "electroencephalography"

Jul. 29th, 2004 06:58 pm (UTC)
haha that's great!! Hmmm... PB's car has UT in it (he got a UofT license plate a couple of years ago...)

And my car already has a name! :D
Jul. 29th, 2004 04:49 am (UTC)
Oh wierd. I don't understand why they do that -- I mean I can see why they'd keep a model line in Canada but not the US, but interior/exterior combinations? That's odd.

I know how you feel about black/ beige. My Supra came like that out of the factory. I had to re-upholster it. Uuuugggly. :P

Jul. 29th, 2004 09:13 am (UTC)
Leather seats in a car must be black. Period. Full stop. End of discussion. =D

Re: Acura EL

Husband made me come back and tell you that the Acura 1.6 and 1.7 ELs are Honda Civics with the Acura VTech engine and badged as Acuras.
Jul. 29th, 2004 04:48 am (UTC)
OHHH. You know, I was thinking it could be something like that when I looked at the pictures. It looked like it shared the Civic chassis but it looked more like an Accord of some sort.

It was slow? I thought it would be fast. The B16A (the 1.6VTEC) is supposed to be quick -- like 160hp or something.

You would think. But it produced max torque at high revs (like up at 4000rpm), so it was sluggish to get going when the light turned green. You basically have to floor it to make it go. I just don't DO that with my cars, y'know? I don't even like seeing the tachometer needle go past 2500rpm =S

I believe the 1.6EL debuted in 1996. As my wife previously pointed out, it's only available in Canada and is essentially an Acura-branded Civic. IIRC, it sported a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder 126HP VTEC engine (1996~1998) while the Civics at the time got the non-VTEC sub-120HP engines. After 1999, the Civic Sis got VTEC engines and the only real difference between the ELs and the Civics was the Acura branding and some interior amenities (leather seats, seat warmers, etc.).

The Knight Ridah was a lot of fun to drive, but the best way to describe the experience is that it felt like you were sitting in a large go-cart surrounded by plastic panels. The '86 Nissan Maxima (our other car), on the other hand, drives like a tank in comparison.

'86 Nissan Maxima

Ex-CUSE me!! Champagne was a 1990 Maxima and she had a lot more get-up-and-go than that bicycle the Knight Ridah.

Ah okay. Thanks for the explanation. I don't remember that engine desgination but I remember that engine. I actually thought it had quite a bit of pep, being in a car that light. I mean sure it wasn't quick like the 160hp versions, but it wasn't slow either.

My fiancee had a civic, I remember what it felt like. And yeah, the Maximas are tanks. :)

Oh, this is archangel_x replying as groomzilla.
