CSI/CSI: Miami/CSI: New York Comparison

weather: cloudy
outside: 7°C
mood: pensive
I love CSI. The original. The one set in Las Vegas. And I get very indignant when people call it "CSI: Las Vegas".

No.

It's not CSI ANYTHING, it's just plain CSI.    =)

I've seen CSI: Miami and CSI: New York episodes. I hate CSI: Miami (can't stand Horatio). I will watch CSI:NY to be with my Husband (he likes CSI:NY).

Part of the reason I like CSI is the teamwork, in character and among the actors themselves. No one is "the star" there. They were all relative unknowns... well, unknown to me, before I saw them on the series. They all do important things on their cases. They all work together on different pieces. Gil Grissom is the boss, but he isn't single-handedly The Show every time. He isn't everywhere at once, he doesn't have all the answers, he relies on his staff. It's much more of a team environment than the other series.

That's what annoys me about CSI:Miami. Horatio is "The It". I haven't seen this series for a long time though, so this might have changed.

It's less so with CSI:NY, but still a bit irritating. Maybe it's just my preconceived notions of Gary Sinise (whom I really like and think is a very talented actor in many ways), but I think both the plot of each episode and the continuing storyline revolve around Mac Taylor too much.

It could be that CSI:NY just needs more time, but I get the impression that by the time I'd seen this many episodes of CSI, I knew all of the characters better.

I watch CSI:Miami... I admit it. BUT I watch it because it's so bad. It's like Caruso is trying to do an impression of a real cop... not acting, but parodying. I mean, seriously, what crime lab has a silver Hummer as the crew car?

Where on CSI I find it odd that the supervisor has to say "Bag this and run DNA on the blood" and otherwise micro-manage his team, I find it HILARIOUS when Caruso and his team talk things out "Hmmm.. a bullet, and it appears to have been fired recently, from a weapon. We should try to find the weapon. The weapon that fired it. Check this door for fingerprints, and type that blood. We're looking for a dangerrous individual here, and we can't miss any clue, people."

It's like a 45 minute long haiku of pointless exposition. I watch commercial-free versions of Miami only... I lose interest in the show after 30-60 seconds otherwise.

The interaction between characters is awful, and the acting across the board is pathetic. The writing is poor, and I can only assume that the scripts originate in a room filled with interns and crazy people.

They should make Horatio say "Hark, yonder lies A HOUSE". =D

Wow. I so hear you on that. CSI is the only show worth watching out of the other three. *nods a lot* It was the original, and my favourite until I stopped watching TV when I moved into the dorms.

I love Gary Sinise! He was my favourite in The Stand - and this from someone who didn't especially like Stu in the book.

I completely agree with you. I love CSI, and hate Horatio. I also find the CSI storylines and cases are better. I find that they focus on the characters more, where as CSI:Miami is really all about the case they're working on.

Haven't seen CSI:NY yet... (hmmm... when is it on?)

Yeah, if I really wanted to watch crime documentaries, I'd catch Medical Detectives or Cold Case Files.

Whenever the Husband yells to me that it's on =) Looks like Wednesdays at 10p. =)

Mike and I discuss this quite regularly - sadly enough.

We looooove CSI, but for some reason, can't stand CSI Miami, or NY, and yes - we realy don't like the Horatio guy. Both the Miami and NY team dynamic just doesn't click like the CSI team, they make their gruesome job look fun!

Mike says it's the diference between Jean Luc Picard and Captain Kirk *rolls eyes*, but yes, it's true.

I'm agreeing with everyone else. I love CSI (although recent cast shakeups are kinda bugging me), hate Horatio and his Sunglasses of Justice, and am not sure how I feel about NY (Gary Sinise is of the good, but I dunno).

CSI: The Original Series
I wonder if similar things happened with Star Wars: A New Hope or Star Trek: TOS.

Chemistry club here is making a field trip Thursday to the State Police Crime Lab, but I'll be at home. :-(

I voted that they should have one in the spring, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

you know, i've never really liked teh other two CSIs but i wasn't able to put a finger on what bugged em about it. i think i agree with you on how it's bad that the series revolves around one character too much.

i don't like how they call him "H."

THANK YOU for addressing this. I've been a CSI fan since it first came on the air, and it bugs me TO NO END when people (especially in csi, of all places) call it CSI: Vegas.

And of course, there is no substitute for the original :)

That's precisely why I'm not in csi or c_s_i (which tells me that there must be _much_ drama in those parts).

I love CSI (and you're right it's not CSI: Las Vegas). I watch the other two because I like the city settings. I do not care for Horatio (and have never liked him as an actor).

Tru Calling is supposed to be coming back after the first of the year - I hope so, I enjoyed that show last year!

I've been reading conflicting reports about whether Tru Calling is coming back or not. It better - that cliff hanger was a doozy!

CSI: New York. Better than CSI: Miami, but not as good as the original CSI. =)
