More Music Questions

weather: sunny
outside: 5.4°C
mood: tired
My journal has become By Request Only. *smirk* =} Today's request comes from: chenpion.

Some previous music posts.

Okay, on with it then. =)

  1. Total volume of music on my computer: 6G. I know. That's teeny. I mean, it'll all fit onto an iSnod Mini. And that 6G includes some duplicate and partial duplicate copies that were saved from me editing the files. It also includes plain text files with lyrics as well as a few minor music tweaking utilities. The big audio editors are over on my Apps drive.

  2. The last CD I bought: Feng Shui by Daniel May. It's not Chinese music. It's music inspired by Chinese instruments and melodies, but it's very very very close. I got it from one of those relaxation music displays in gift shops, but these are also available online (Avalon Music or Island Flower out of Prince Edward Island).

    1. Song I was listening to just before I started this: I wasn't listening to anything, but recently, I've had Winamp randoming around the Love to Infinity compilation (Mandarin love songs from the 90s).

    2. Song playing right now (4.3M; right-click→Save Target As...):

      哭砂 (kū shā)

      歌手: 黃鶯鶯 (artist: Tracy Wong)
      詞: 林秋离 (lyricist)
      曲: 熊美玲 (composer)

  3. 5 songs I listen to a lot that mean a lot to me: Hmm... many different songs have meant a lot to me at different times. Some that come to mind:

    • 情義兩心堅 - 張德蘭 (Stella Chang). From the Return of the Condor Heroes.
    • Butterfly - Smile DK. From the Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Mix. I never played, but this song was especially cute.
    • When You Love Someone - Bryan Adams
    • The Inner Light Suite, Star Trek: TNG - Jerry Goldsmith.
    • Ohtorimasho ("Let's dance") and Yamerarenai ("Don't stop, Can't stop") both from Tenshi Muyo.     Way.     Too.     Much.     Fun.     =D Especially Yamerarenai, which sounds something like Cotton-Eye Joe in Japanese XD

I can send these on request if anyone's interested. Also, if you can get me songs from the soundtrack to ATV's 少女慈僖 (The Young Dowager) starring Leanne Lau, I will establish a new religion in your name... Note that I didn't say I'd join it or convert to it XD =D

  4. Which 5 people are you passing this baton to and why?

There are people that I hope to hear from, but I don't want to name anyone... especially since I've been bad at updating myself =)

I'm so happy you sent me the Inner Light suite and we played it before our ceremony. It's just beautiful :)

I'm really glad it worked out for you =)

I just did this meme, and I would've named you, but you've been around so little since the new job!

Could've guessed the Inner Light suite! :D

Keep talking to me =) It'll prevent me from getting sucked into WoW. So far, the $15/month has been holding me back, but money becomes less of an object when you've been roped into it. =D

I'm glad to see you surfacing - are you keeping your spirits up? How is it going to be over the longer term? Any longrange plans?

Inquiring minds want to know... :D

I'm doing well, for the most part, being useful, that kinda thing. We're paid bi-weekly and it feels _really_ often. Like, wow, you're paying me AGAIN?! =D =D

Long range... does closer to the end of the year count? I wanted to take a week off in October or November to go to Vegas with the Husband and FINALLY go on our honeymoon. But I wanted to work a little longer before I started talking about taking off on vacation =)

I'm trying to get him to budget his time off over the year and actually take it. 1 or 2 weeks at a time and more frequently now that he gets 6 weeks in the year.

Right now, each paycheque of his includes his vacation pay because they're so busy that he may or may not be able to leave. But that just works to discourage people from taking any time off, which isn't a good thing. Though, they've been really good about trying to schedule things so that they can shut down the office between Christmas and New Years as "paid company holiday" time, which is nice.

I really like your new icon!

Honeymoon sounds like a marvellous plan. That "too busy to take vacations" culture burns people out pretty quickly, too. Xmas week is nice, but it hardly does as sanity break.

Re: new icon - Thanks =)

Oh, and apparently, his company has stopped paying out vacation with every paycheque... I think they stopped a long time ago, but I just forgot about it.

Be sucked in!
... and go on the Blackrock server when you do! =)

Re: Be sucked in!
OOOOH NO! *backpedal* *backpedal* =D =D One person in the family wasting money on WoW is enough XD

I'll see if I can use his account or the brother-in-law's account when they're not playing =)

I just played that song - it's lovely! And surprising how Celtic the melody sounds -
Apr. 10th, 2005 10:07 pm (UTC)
Yes! The first exposure I had to "Celtic" music was Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance and I was very surprised at how "Chinese" Celtic music sounded =)

I'm glad to know that it's not just me. That's fascinating, and I'd be very interested in finding out just what the similiarities are, and if they have any cultural roots...

You rock! That's *very* interesting, and a little educational factoid I'll hang onto.

I'll be *much* more interesting at parties now! :-)
