PSA: Before You Post

weather: cloudy
outside: 9°C
mood: sympathetic
Because you're my friends, I hate to see you seething in rage when LJ ate the post you spent time crafting to perfection and knowing that it's completely preventable:

Pleasepleaseplease, just before you hit the Post button, hold down the CONTROL key and press 'A', then 'C'. This selects everything you've written and copies it to the Copy&Paste buffer.

If LJ has eaten the post, immediately open up your favorite text editor or Notepad or MS Word or even a new LJ post and go CTRL-V to paste.

Do it. Make this a habit. Even if LJ says they're saving your drafts for you.

Been doing this since my days on Xanga and I agree that ti saves sooo much grief and rage. Applies to using browser-based e-mail, forums, blogs... anything... great technique.

Yup, especially now that I have a wireless connection that can flake out for no apparent reason. =P

On that topic.. sometimes I 'borrow' a neighbour's wireless connection.

Windows drops it all the time, but Linux has *not once* dropped the connection.

good idea!
much less hassle than actually saving the text.

although it wouldn't work if the whole computer died, i guess that's a much less likely occurence...

Re: good idea!
True enough. But it would help in a few more instances...

Oh yeah, I very routinely do ctrl-a.

And, I'm upgrading to a MacBook Pro soon, and shall start referring the the Command key as the Splat key! That's just awesome hahaha!

Haha =D I think "splat" key is a really old-school Mac thing... I love bringing out seriously antique geek terminology like that and watching peoples' reaction XD

"Big List of Wrong Names for the Command Key"

AAHAHAHAHA!!! I'm quite fond of calling it "Key with the apple symbol on it next to the space bar...yeah that one", myself. =D

The puppyfoot key! XD

hi, found you through other journals, and am just a random stranger. commenting here because this advice is good advice. i started doing that after being annoyed at lost posts. i think they've got some auto-save feature going on now though.

Hi there, welcome =)

They do have a draft saving feature now, but I've found that it doesn't save what I think it should. =)

i've luckily not had any problems lately. in fact, i think i've not been using the ctrl-a and copy function even.
